Question by megan.jones_march1990: Can someone please give comments and opinions on the following Statements?
1. Wasn’t Prison ment for Punishment, so why are we seeing prisons turning into Rehabilitation/Correction/Reformation Centres, holiday camps and hotel sort of liberal prisons where prisoners can sit all day long, watching cable tv, in air con, eating junk food all day, in gyms and swimming pools listening and doing conciling sessions, when really they should be doing hard labour without frills?
2. Whats the point in trying to reform someone when in reality its too late to, why wasn’t the causes of crime dealt with earlier in the persons life when they were like children?
3. Do you belive its the governments fault that people are left out of opportunities or do you think its an individual choice?

I think your opinions are your own and very…different.
On part 1 I will say you make it sound as if prison isn’t so bad, I would beg to differ. Kill or be killed and rape on a regular basis are not fun places.
On part 2 I will say, our system is not setup to rehabilitate, but to punish.
On part 3 I will say that your characterization of a government’s fault is small government bashing of gov’t interventionists. I will say that it is not the gov’t fault that someone has not had opportunities, but if the gov’t intervened people could have a future and opportunities instead of the grinding poverty that leads to crime.
Good luck.
