Has anyone out there ever seen or heard any success stories where an abuser that seriously sought help got the help they needed to stop the cycle of abuse?

it is possible, if the person is willing to change and wants to do the work to get better. Unfortunately most abusers do not see through their problems and cannot make it to the other side of their own walls.
